AREAS OF OPERATION
SOLOS's areas of activity range from the creation of a database, the preparation of didactic material for courses and tutorials, the use of GIS tools for solutions or models of approximations of edaphic conditions. The objective is to work systematically to solve problems encountered by society in soil issues with the help of geostatistics, geotechnologies, mapping and field studies tools.
Soil and plant interaction
Plants extract the elements necessary for their development from the soil. It is often not conclusive in natural soils which elements control the growth, mortality and establishment of species. Plant nutrition is a research sector that serves private sectors and public institutions, both urban and rural areas, native biomes or planted forests.
Digital Soil Mapping
Digital soil mapping has been applied as a way to obtain a raster surface gradient that accurately describes the spatial variation of soil attributes. This form of soil assessment, combined with field collections and genesis assessment, are powerful tools for interpretation and better decisions on soil management.
Regeneration Studies
During studies and regeneration projects it is important to assess whether the species being chosen for reforestation or resource investment is ideal for the soil conditions of the area and/or region. There is often a high investment in species and seedlings that do not complete their development due to the soil conditions in the region. An edaphic assessment is extremely important before defining which species will be replanted.
GIS Application in Soil Management
Maps have been allies in soil science since before 1800. The final result of a soil work assessment process can be a map that guides the use decisions of the region or determines where more care and investment effort is needed and where are the areas with conditions bem structured. With the advancement of GIS technologies and free software, it became easier to know, monitor, investigate the soil conditions of different regions and synthesize this information spatially with the help of maps._cc781905- 5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_
Modeling of Edaphic Attributes
The chemical-physical characteristics of soils are sometimes unknown, so soil characteristics that are easy to measure in the field serve as a subsidy for the prediction of other information. This possibility of work is carried out through mathematical models that help in the understanding of processes linked to the soil of a certain region. This methodology can be applied in cases of low funding for field collections and field sampling.
Field survey
Soils are better understood when they are evaluated with laboratory analysis in addition to field interpretation analysis (landscape formation). The collection of soil material consists of field extraction to validate surfaces of existing inventories of characteristics of the region or to expand the investigation of the compression of processes that occur in the soil of the area. This region can be managed areas (agricultural and pastoral) or natural areas with native biomes or in a state of regeneration. Physicochemical analyzes can also be carried out in urban areas for public policy purposes.
Precision agriculture
Currently, with the new GIS technologies and monitoring of soil attributes, it is possible to predict and estimate the productivity (biomass gain over time) of forests and cultivable areas. This increased the precision of soil management and care, through geostatistical studies, modeling, statistical analysis with a database collected specifically for the region of interest. This is one of the company's work methodologies.
Research Applied to Soils
Soils vary spatially across landscapes as well as vary vertically with increasing depth. As a result, particularities of the region of interest must be taken into account when making management decisions, as a way of better investing efforts. With this, the scientific methodology presents better performance during decision-making and allows neutrality in decisions and greater applicability of public knowledge.
Education, Training and Training
All applications and methodological solutions suggested by the company present different possibilities of presentation, dissemination and teaching. We offer teaching services in all areas of the company's activities for all audiences, we have the possibility of creating video classes for specific audiences (communities, entrepreneurs, schools, cooperatives, associations, collectives, NGOs, foundations among others)._cc781905 -5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_
